About Action for Wildlife Day

In partnership with a number of wildlife charities including Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, Protect the Wild and Wild Justice, Hen Harrier Action is holding an Action for Wildlife Day free event at Carsington Water in Derbyshire on Saturday 10th of August.

A packed schedule of compelling guest speakers will also feature spotlight performances by the Sing It Bold Gospel Community Choir, and a guest set by legendary English folk musician Martin Simpson.

With speakers including Chris Packham from Wild Justice, Jo Smith from Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, Rob Pownall and Charlie Moores from Protect the Wild, author and naturalist Mark Cocker, award-winning children's author Gill Lewis and more.

Plus 20 stalls and stands from organisations including the RSPB, Woodland Trust, Badger Trust, Creeping Toad Environmental Storytelling, Derbyshire Wildlife Crime Unit, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, Wild Justice, Derbyshire Swift Conservation, Yorkshire Coast Nature and more.

Carsington Water's own Carsington Bird Club will be present at the Visitor Centre, where you can sign up for their excellent Walks and Talks and the monthly Bird Walks for Beginners.

Free children's activities including kite making, seed bomb making, children's creative writing, bird feeder making, animal puppet making, bird walks and lots more.

All the stalls will be open from 11am, and events on the live stage will start from 12.30pm. The event finishes around 5pm.

Carsington Water has everything you need for a great day out. There are breath-taking views from each of the three routes around the site, from the Stones Island 1.5km trail, taking in a Bronze Age barrow and standing stones, to the full 12km reservoir loop trail, through wildflower meadows and semi-ancient woodland. Most of the tracks are surfaced and accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

The car parks are open from 7.30am to 8pm and use automatic number plate recognition, so you can pay after your visit.

The Visitor Centre, shops, cafes and restaurants are open from 10am to 5pm.
Dogs are welcome but must be on leads at all times.

There are plenty of places to enjoy a picnic, but barbeques are not allowed, due to the fire risk.
