This village is inside the Peak District National Park and was once part of an estate village belonging to the Harpur Crewe family, who had their family home at Calke Abbey.
Consisting of some fine cottages, a pub, village hall and the Church of St Lawrence, the local industry here was once mining, but this has now completely disappeared.
