About Chatsworth Farmyard & Adventure Playground

Younger visitors and families particularly enjoy the farmyard with its wide variety of animals and their young, and the spectacular woodland adventure playground. From milking demonstrations and the daily animal handling sessions, to fabulous water play and spiral slides, there is something for everyone.

There is a cafe and a shop and for a private party, you can hire the beautiful children's party hut, built around a tree at the top of the adverture playground.

The farmyard offers an entertaining and educational insight into the British livestock farming industry and farming across the estate. There are cows, pigs, goats, sheep, horses, chickens and fish, and usually young animals to see as well. There are several small animal-handling sessions each day and a cow milking demonstration at 3.30pm. A hand goat-milking demonstration takes place from late May to October.

You can learn about the growth and development of a variety of commercial livestock and how we utilise them in food production. As well as all the usual daily activities for visitors to enjoy, the farmyard team offer a number of special weeks throughout the season, focusing on particular moments in the farming calendar and the changing seasons. There may be special talks and demonstrations and other relevant seasonal displays and activities. These include new life weeks, rural skills week, harvest week and Christmas Nativity weeks from mid November.

The huge and varied woodland adventure playground provides enjoyment for all ages and has been built to conform to the highest international safety standards. Young children explore the sand and water play areas, while older children can test their skill on the towers, ropewalks, spiral slide and commando wire. We suggest you allow at least one hour in the playground alone.

Along with the farmyard & adventure playground there is the beautiful Chatsworth House which can be enjoyed by all the family.
